The dining options beyond the resorts on Taveuni are somewhat limited, as with most outer islands, but if you make the effort to find them, or ask a knowing local, then you could be in for a treat.
Karen's Garden Restaurant
Situated right on the cliff top opposite Matai airport on the northern tip of Taveuni this quaint little restaurant presents a small menu of European dishes. Beef Stroganoff, Chicken in Sherry, Roasted Pork and the like so if you've had enough seafood and tropical fare and hanging out for that steak then this is the place for you. Top that off with stunning views to the small islands beyond as the sun sets and it could be the perfect end to your day. Dinner reservations required.
Shanti's Restaurant
It is what it is! Fijian BBQ at its best. You will find Shanti's right smack in the middle of Naqara, the islands commercial centre. Expect the usual range of BBQ treats including sausage, eggs, casava, mutton chops etc etc. If you haven't tried BBQ Fijian style then give this a go!
Soqulu Golf & Country Club
If your journey takes you down the western shores of Taveuni then Soqulu Golf & Country Club is a great stopover for a cld beer, a glass of wine or what ever takes you fancy by the pool. The location is tranquil set amongst the fairways of the golf course and the food is tasty and plentiful. Classic Country Club fare.
COCONUT GROVE BEACHFRONT RESTAURANT
Located directly on the ocean at Coconut Grove Beachfront Cottages is their famous restaurant!
Frommers Guide says “Coconut Grove consistently serves Taveuni's best fare at this little enclave. Offers breakfasts (the banana, coconut, and papaya breads are fabulous) and salads, soups, burgers, and sandwiches for lunch. Dinners include a variety of local seafood dishes, spicy Thai and mild Fijian curries and homemade pastas. Saturday night features a buffet and Fijian musicians. Dining tables are on the veranda, which has a great view of the little islands off Taveuni, making it a fine place not just for lunch or dinner but to sip a great fruit shake or juice while waiting for your flight. This is the place for a romantic dinner by the beach.”
